HDB was honoured to receive the BCA Universal Design Excellence Award for Harmony Village @ Bukit Batok, presented at the International Built Environment Week (IBEW) Industry & Awards Dinner 2026 on 4th September.

As Singapore's first Community Care Apartment (CCA) project, Harmony Village @ Bukit Batok was designed to be an inclusive home for seniors that goes beyond simply providing housing. The project exceeded the requirements of the Universal Design Index (UDi) self-assessment framework, under which only projects achieving an "A" rating are considered for this award. Thoughtful touches are woven throughout the development, from distinctive floor colours, motifs, and larger fonts at letter boxes that aid wayfinding, to vision panels at main doors, flip-up clothes drying racks, and grab bars that support independent living. Outdoor amenities and themed communal spaces further encourage residents to connect with their neighbours — together creating an environment that is not only accessible and supportive for seniors to age with dignity but welcoming for residents of all ages and needs.

Congratulations to our project team comprising officers from DDG and BQG, whose hard work on Harmony Village reflects HDB's longstanding commitment to universal design excellence!
